Outstation Art Gallery provides a backdrop for a broad range of high-quality work from both emerging and established Indigenous artists from community based and community owned Aboriginal art centres in the Kimberleys, Central Australia, the Tiwi Islands, the Western Desert and Arnhem Land. A particular focus of Outstation is to support the careers of new and emerging artists.

The director of Outstation, Matt Ward, established the art gallery in 2008 after numerous years working for and in conjunction with Aboriginal communities, their art centres, and Aboriginal arts peak bodies. He’s passionate about supporting Aboriginal-owned art centres and the large role they serve within their communities, helping them to gain national and international recognition for their artists.
